THE  WONHAM LARCH TREE-HOUSE

With a construction reminiscent of Los Angeles’ early 1960s stilt houses, this treehouse is utterly unique, not just for its construction, but its cladding. Using mirrors to form the outer shell, this space blends effortlessly into its environment, with stilts allowing the whole venue to occupy an area that doesn’t impose on the site’s natural beauty. Overlooking the tree canopy that’s grown over the last 200 years in the abandoned quarry, The Wonham Larch is placed on Exmoor’s border, with a short drive to the Blackdown Hills AONB, the Quantock Hills AONB or the Dunkery & Horner Wood National Nature Reserve just above it. Midway between all these wild spaces, The Wonham Larch doesn’t compromise on comfort, making it an oasis of luxury to venture from.

Opening the front door, you’ll immediately be graced with the views of the spacious balcony, where you’ll find the jacuzzi bath awaiting use for stargazing in the Exmoor Dark Skies reserve. Indoors, there’s a modern kitchen for laid-back dinners – for which you can stock up for at the shops five minutes’ drive away. There’s a sofa placed at the centre of the space where you’ll naturally gravitate come rain or shine, either basking in the open air, or peering over the top of your book to watch the rain blur the collage of green outside. When evening comes, settle in by the log burner, refresh yourself beneath the drench shower in the wetroom and retire to your super king size bed for a well-earned snooze.
